Ashkhen

Ashkhen was a princess, the daughter of King Ashkatar of the Alans. She married Armenian King Tiridates III of the Arsacid dynasty.

Ashkhen was Queen when St. Gregory the Illuminator was preaching in Armenia. She became the first Christian Queen in the world.

After being baptized, Ashkhen and her husband, the king, ordered the destruction of all idols and temples, and built churches and chapels in their places.

She became a beacon of the Christian faith by which she illuminated the dark pages of the Armenian history.

The Ashkhen Chapter was established in 1946 under the name of “Nor Marash”.

The founding board included: Anoush Dadian, Hayganoush Kouyoumjian, Berjouhi Minassian, Araxi Kebabjdian, Shnorhig Keremetlian, Eliz Esmerian, Arshagouhi Darakdjian, and Maro Keolian.

The chapter operates at the ARF “Sartarabad” Center, in the Yerevanian building.

Because of the civil war in the region, the Forty Martyrs Armenian National Kindergarten was transformed into the “Fesdekjian” Hospital.
