The survivors of the Genocide, who found refuge in Lebanon, started to grow in number and started spreading to various regions from Bourj Hammoud extending to Achrafieh.
During the years 1929 and 1930, many houses were built on one of the hills of Achrafieh (Karm Al Zeytoun). Since the region became inhabited by only Armenians, it was called “Hayashen” (Inhabited by Armenians).
In 1937, an ARCL chapter was established in Hayashen. At first the Chapter was known by its region’s name. However, when the ARCL Regional Executive decided to rename the chapters, the people of Hayashen insisted on keeping the name of their beloved district.
The Hayashen Chatpter was established in 1937 in the Hayashen district in Achrafieh. It includes the neighborhoods of Sioufi, Fassouh, Sassine extending to Sodeco.
The founding board included: Souren Karakelleian (Chair), Arousyag Ohannessian (Secretary), Makrouhi Temirjian (Treasurer), Annig Sinanian, and Lipanouhi Donabedian.
The Chapter operates at the ARF “Rostom” center.
