Hripsime Sassouni

Hripsime Sassouni, born Pineguian (1883), entered the ranks of the ARF in 1910 and used the alias Lola.

During 1913-1914, Lola became part of the Hamazasb military group. In August of 1916, Lola joined the gorilla (Fedayi) group and assumed the leadership of the orphanages.

She married Garo Sassouni and settled in Yerevan.

She participated in the battles of Sartarabad.

After the independence of Armenia, Lola worked for the Armenian Red Cross.

In 1925, she settled in Paris. In 1934, she moved to Cairo, then to Aleppo where she headed the Regional Executive of the Red Cross. In 1937, she relocated to Beirut and till her death, managed the works of the Regional Executive of the ARCL.

During World War II in 1942, along with Chavo Shant, Lola established the program called “a plate of food”.

As part of the ARCL activities, she undertook the establishment of clinics.

In 1954, she established the Recovery Center (Gaztourman Gayan) of Chtaura.

In 1969, she passed away at her home. Her remains are found at the ARF Pantheon.

The Hripsime Sassouni Chapter was established in 1971 in the Fanar region.

The founding board included: Karoun Sakoyian, Mari Boghossian, Satenig Kasbarian, Serpouhi Yardemian, Yeran Keshishian, and Takouhi Demirdjian.

The chapter operates at the “Edgar Agnouni” Center.
