Located on the lower stream of the river banks of the Meghry River, the town of the same name has a strategic position just 264 km far from Yerevan.
Meghry was populated since ancient times. It has its own dialect.
Meghry is rich with nectariferous plants and famous for its cotton and cobblestone factories as well as factories of preserves, wine, cheese, and bread. Agriculture constitutes 13 percent of the industry.
The town has hospitals, pharmacies, schools, libraries, and many churches including the church of St. Asdvadsadsin and St. Hovhanness
Currently, Meghry is the southern gateway of Armenia which makes it the only land route for trade with Persia and the outside world through the south.
The Meghry Chapter was established in 1930 and known as “the Beirut Chapter”. It was given the name “Meghry” in 1996.
The founding board included: Heghoush Papazian (chair), Khoren Soukiassian (secretary), Dikran Mavisakalian (treasurer), Dr. Benjamin Koulakian, Dr. Melkon Hayrabedian, and Aghavni Papazian.
The chapter operates at the “Nshan Palanjian” Center.
