The ARCL from day one of its establishment (in 1930) has prioritised the health needs of the Armenian population; thus it has created clinics in the various Armenian communities in Lebanon. Later, it established the Health Committee which operates since 1995 in the Araxi Boulghourjian Socio-Medical Center (ABSMC) with the Public Health Department.
The committee operates to implement an awareness of “Healthy Life-style”. With this purpose in mind, many activities were achieved and continue to be implemented. Some of these activities include:
- Organizing series of weekly lectures addressing medical, psychological and social topics as well as round-table meetings for all family members organized at the ABSMC’s Tenjukian Hall and in the centers of various ARCL chapters.
- Recording various lectures on videos to make them available to all ARCL chapters.
- Producing various booklets and pamphlets which provide general health information and statistical data.
- Conducting intensive First Aid courses in various institutions and schools of the community.
- Organizing campaigns to increase awareness for prevention and early diagnosis of some diseases.
- Conducting workshops for the youth to fight alcoholism and drug addiction and to prepare a responsible youth.
- Organizing a series of lectures held at schools and youth institutions to nurture a healthy sexual education.
All these activities are dedicated to support the physical, mental and physiological health of the individual as well as to the development of the Armenian community.
